A Culture of Belonging

Our entire department, including our residency and fellowship programs, is committed to fostering a welcomi culture. We welcome everyone and recognize that a program comprised of all backgrounds makes us all stronger and better equipped to serve our patients. The Mountain West region is a wonderful place to train and we welcome applicants from places near and far. If you haven’t seriously considered making a move to Utah, take a closer look. Our GME office offers virtual meet and greets allowing trainees across different geographies, cultures, faith traditions, physical abilities, and genders to chat with current trainees and answer questions about training at the University of Utah.

We believe we are at our best when we recognize and embrace the full spectrum of the human experience regardless of differences. We endeavor to cultivate and maintain an environment where all voices are welcome and heard, everyone feels that they belong, and everyone has an equal opportunity for success.

To help us foster a welcoming culture, the Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences has established two committees that collaborate closely together, with a focus on wellness and belonging.

Mission Statement  

To promote a welcoming environment that respects difference in values, celebrates all backgrounds, and fully fosters the development of all faculty, researchers, trainees, and staff in the Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences.   

Goals 

  • To develop a culture that embraces all backgrounds
  • To develop a targeted approach to workplace harmony training and awareness that is aligned with institutional efforts 
  • To provide a forum for open discussion for people across all geographies, cultures, faith traditions, physical abilities and genders.
  • To provide outreach and encourage mentorship of trainees of all backgrounds
  • To regularly assess and monitor department needs centered around respect and belonging in the workplace.
