Interventional APC/APP Fellowship
Interventional APC/APP Fellowship
Program Overview and Scope of Training:
The Interventional Radiology Advanced Practice Clinician (IR APC or APP) Fellowship at the University of Utah is a two-year training program designed to prepare Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants for advanced practice in Interventional Radiology within a leading academic medical center.
This immersive fellowship provides structured clinical training, progressive procedural experience, and comprehensive didactic education aligned with the Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR) APP Core Curriculum. Fellows work closely with experienced interventional radiologists, and APC/APPs to develop expertise in image-guided procedures, peri-procedural patient management, and complex clinical decision-making.
During the first year, fellows focus on foundational IR skills through core clinical rotations, supervised procedural training, and structured didactics. In the second year, fellows transition into an Instructor-level role, gaining greater clinical independence while expanding their experience through advanced rotations in areas such as oncology, hepatology, vascular disease, and surgery.
Graduates of the program are prepared to practice independently as Interventional Radiology APC/APPs in both academic and community environments, equipped with the procedural competency, clinical judgment, and leadership skills required in this rapidly evolving specialty.
The fellowship reflects the University of Utah’s commitment to innovative education, multidisciplinary collaboration, and excellence in patient care, while supporting the growth of the next generation of Interventional Radiology APC/APP leaders.
